Why hammer price
A published result at most houses is the hammer price plus the buyer's premium, and premiums run from 10% to 25%. Two houses reporting $1,250 and $1,170 for the same wine may both have hammered at $1,000. LastHammer removes each house's premium and divides by the bottles in the lot, so a price at Spectrum Wine Auctions and a price anywhere else mean the same thing.
